The hottest underwear trends this season with the queen of lingerie Immodesty Blaize and winner of the Global Triumph Inspiration Awards, designer James Nolan.
It is often said that it’s what’s on the inside that counts… and that couldn’t be more the case when it comes to your clothes, because although the outer wear may look great it is in fact underwear that makes you feel great. So think beyond the international fashion weeks, the show that was on everyone’s mind was the Global Triumph Inspiration Awards which took place in Milan on September 23rd. The newest and hottest underwear designs were on display and each country showcased its award designs in front of a panel of expert judges, including Hollywood actress Hilary Swank. Emerging designers were judged on how they put forward their interpretations of the theme ‘icons’ – with designs being inspired by a range of items including even the Sydney Opera House, who knew underwear could be that exciting? And the world beating design came from our very own UK entry designer James Nolan, who wowed the judges with his interpretation on Swan Lake.
New underwear is an essential part of any girl’s wardrobe and having the right lingerie not only makes you feel sexy, confident and in control – but wearing the right bra also does so much for your figure, maximising the look of your cleavage and curves. With so many different designs and colours, from the balcony bra, to the plunge – we’re truly now spoilt for choice and what a choice there is.
This range of options can often make it difficult to know what to look for when it comes to underwear trends. This season, white is no longer a colour to keep in your closet because it has been out in full bloom on the catwalks over the last few weeks, but before you are afraid of looking tacky or cheap, know that white is the new black in a stylish simple sort of way.
Although guys most often think of white as an undershirt and the occasional dress shirt, guys were decked out in full white gear head to toe in styles by Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavallli, and Versace. Of course, there are a few rules that you need to follow before rushing out to buy all white, but with these in mind, white can result in a very sharp look.
First of all, do not go half-hearted about the white trend, because it involves all white clothing not just a top or bottom. This means that you can wear a little black such as a belt, but avoid bright accents or you will look quite odd, or somewhat like someone dropped their lunch on you.
Second, do not add any complicated patterns, shoes, or other accessories. White is as simple as a colour can get, so keep your accessories and layering simple such as a white jacket or top. However, any more than three pieces of layering and you will risk looking like Casper.
Finally, do not mix shades of white, because your outfit will end up looking odd and old instead of fashionable as darker shades will look faded and trashed. The best white is crisp fresh white that looks like it is straight out of the store instead of yellow, beige, or ivory white

Tbilisi, Georgia – Fashion house Atelier Informal presented a great women’s collection. The line for Fall Winter 2010/ 2011 can easily be described as one in “good taste” or as “feminine, soft, modern but not too frou-frou-là-là”!
The short black t-shirt dress, the top in crepe and the ensemble of a short dress in black worn with a grey felt blazer with squared shoulders are among the many solid ideas in this collection. A charcoal grey dress with square cut neckline is worn with extremely structured yet voluminous shoulders on blazer in black. The baby blue dress with fabric motif appliqués is accentuated by a camel colored fabric motif and tunic-like jacket. It is followed by a mini dress in the same blue with long sleeves and slanted and near angular shoulder. This is the proper example on how to create with exaggerated sleeves without making the clothes look utterly ridiculous as we have seen in Paris.
This designer is on the money with her shoulder work. The only example of over the top exaggeration comes in the form of the delightful open back jumpsuit. Long sleeves extend from its high raising shoulders. Though this is an editorial piece, one can expect to see it on the streets.
The ensemble of faint gold iridescent leggings worn with a yellow coat dress with elaborate shoulder work catches one’s attention. Then we see the arrival of the silhouette of smooth flowing silk and a silk chiffon top. The great part about the work on the shoulder is that the fabric seems to be wrapped from underneath the pads, thus helping to create a look of smooth, round pleating. The last piece to catch our attention is the short dress in faint gold. It is crafted in good fabric and has angular shoulders.

Have you struggled to find the perfect foundation that not only matches your skin tone, but provides the perfect level of coverage? Well, your search is over! FACE atelier has launched The Ultra Foundation Collection for Women of Color ($45, faceatelier.com) that features five new shades that are long-lasting, lightweight and breathable like a second skin. We caught-up with FACE atelier creator Debbie Bondar, who formulated this line to meet the very particular complexion need of women of color. Bondar gives BV the flawless face foundation facts.
What types of challenges do women of color face when selecting a foundation and how does your new line conquer these dilemmas?
The greatest challenge is skin tone variation. There are up to thirty-nine recognized variations of color for darker complexions. In contrast, there are only ten found in paler skin tones, and over 90% of them require a yellow-based foundation. Women of color have red, yellow, green and blue undertones that present a daunting color theory challenge. Additionally, richer skin tones often have two and in some cases three undertones. Our new foundation line has simplified the matching process.
The new foundation line is introducing 5 new colors. For the woman who may be in between these shades, can these colors be combined? What suggestions do you have for women of color, who struggle to find the perfect shade that matches exactly to their skin tone?
Women of color represent the largest group of women dissatisfied with their foundation choices, and for decades have mixed shades in an often futile attempt to find a match. With our new line you can easily adjust the five featured shades into the tone of your choice once you identify your skin’s undertone(s) so that you can correctly adjust the shades. In a line of sixteen foundation shades, seven now cater to darker skin with all the requisite undertones: red brown (#9 toffee), yellow/red brown ( 0+), green caramel/gold (#10 cocoa), red caramel/gold l (#11 mink), yellow caramel/gold (#12 sable) and blue (0++).
FACE atelier is already know for its unique Ultra Foundation color adjusters — Zero Minus, a pure white to lighten and Zero Plus, a complex mid-tone brown with warm undertones to darken shades. The Ultra Foundation Women of Color Collection includes two more singular color adjusters: Heat, a unique mango-orange foundation that warms up shades without producing an ashy tone, while also serving as the perfect blush for dark complexions; and Zero Plus Plus, a black/brown with blue undertones that may be the darkest shade ever offered to this demographic. Now the richest brown skin tones have a shade that serves them well, and it’s simple to ‘lighten’ it as needed.

Essence has a new beauty director and her name is Corynne L. Corbett. Corbett is now in charge of “executing the overall beauty vision for the magazine.”
“Beauty is indigenous to the Essence brand and an absolute obsession to the Essence audience. From hair to make-up to skincare, I am looking forward to showing all the ways in which we are beautiful,” she said of her new role.
Previously Corbett worked as executive editor of Real Simple magazine. She oversaw the fashion, beauty, and food coverage as well as serving as the beauty/wellness director for the magazine. Corbett has also worked in Elle’s beauty department and was a regular contributor to Essence. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Chic Jones Media LLC, which owns “That Black Girl Site.”
